Patek Philippe Watches Set New World Record Highs for Auction Bids
Christie’s has announced that Patek Philippe sets new records for the prices of luxury watches at the Important Watches Sale held earlier this week.
90% of the lots offered were sold with twelve buyers from four continents competed for the two top lots.
The top lot, which was bought by a Swiss Private Museum, was a Patek Philippe stainless steel perpetual-calendar wristwatch which went for a whopping $4,016,500! The watch features phases of the moon, a magnetic balance and Arabic numerals. It set a new world record for a steel wristwatch sold at an auction, plus the second-highest price for any wristwatch.
The second-highest lot, Lot 187, was another Patek Philippe watch won by a European collector for $3,113,980. This platinum perpetual-calendar wristwatch offers sweep center seconds, phases of the moon and black hard-enamel Breguet numerals.
Lot 186, a Patek Philippe 18-karat gold perpetual-calendar chronograph wristwatch, sold for $1,047,961 to a European collector while the lot 250, a Patek Philippe 18-karat pink gold chronograph wristwatch with two-toned silvered dial, sold for $939,223 to an Asian collector. Lots 186 and lot 250 also set new world standards for luxury watches auction prices.
